Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official stated the attack left him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
